The issue is two parts:
1. EE demanding the best attitude and work ethic out of his players and some slacked or didn't want to meet it anymore. Some, because of a huge roster, wanted more playing time.
2. Ego inflated players/parents taking coach to player criticism as personal jabs. Then going over the coaches head to complain because that is what society does and deems admirable these days. Pathetic really. Coach EE doesn't want them if that is how a player is on his team. Doesn't matter if they are the best on the team.
You have no idea what EE and the doc talks about when they meet. Maybe EE vents about the issues that make it difficult to coach at any level, but magnified at the level he coaches at. To bring up/insinuate EE and Woody Hayes and a psycho is a stretch, among other things.
