The US was obligated to protect Ukraine’s sovereignty/borders, as was Russia.

The US should have done whatever necessary to prevent Russian incursion into Ukraine. They did not.

Ukraine should not have to give up territory. They likely will.

The US and Russia have failed to live up to their commitments to Ukraine.

There is nothing inconsistent in any of these statements.

Please explain why this message is being reported.
