Writing in 1915, a member of Missouri’s 1903 team commented that when he played, “to want to kill the Jayhawker was not considered improper.” The intensity in recent years did not hold a candle to what it was in the early decades.

Was the rivalry in recent years any more intense or hateful than Ohio State-Michigan or Alabama-Auburn? I doubt it.
