One more historic fact is that part of the Jayhawers were the members of the Red Legs militia (Buffalo Bill Cody was a member) who burned and pillaged towns in Western MO. They were called the Red Legs because of the "red socks" they wore. The Jayhawks carried this tradition forward in Football when the tean would wear red socks ONLY for the game against Mizzou. It will be intersting to see if ku wears red socks on September 6th....
