The roster “limits” don’t help poorer schools at all. Gives the biggest boostered and richest schools the ability to offer full scholarships to 105 players whereas it was at 85. Now granted, most schools will only really have around 50 to 60 players that truly matter but I figure it will help the rich schools with deep depth and development projects. At Mizzou, I wouldn’t even try to fund that many scholarships and encourage money for NIL over more scholarships to ensure you have a good 55 to 60 in the program at all times. Spreading money out to 105 is for the richest of the rich and that’s not many schools. Create a robust walk on program to see if you develop anybody worthy of a scholarship. I’m not convinced it’s the end of football walkons at most schools where money IS an object.
So a quality free agent program for Mizzou.
Quality but more limited to “sure” thing HS recruiting.
A cheaper practice, development and scout team/practice squad program for the rest of the roster. I say your 61 through 105 guys, if you even go to 105.
One thing that will never change is that you have to be able to evaluate talent to succeed. Schools probably need more money being spent on scouting in this day and age.
