weird to me.
These guys have worked their tails off to become the best that they can possibly be and have excelled up to this point in their careers and have dreams of going pro.
Getting a big check to mostly sit on the bench as a backup... an insurance policy, if you will, is a bit of a blow to their ego and their will to continue getting better with more experience and playing time.
They also know that their college career is very time limited. It will come to an end. The guy(s) ahead of them will probably get their chance at glory and get a crack at making a pro team. If their college time expires with them on the bench, or on the injury list in their final year they may not get that chance.
