Shephard was moved to catcher this year. At the Black & Gold banquet in February she introduced herself as a catcher. Abruscato was the backup catcher but she was coming off of shoulder surgery and they needed a third catcher, Shephard volunteered.
She was not a “highly recruited” MIF, she was a very late commit with no other high major offers. And she was not slated to take over at SS, that is/was Uptegrove. I heard HCLA say that the hope and plan was that Uptegrove would start at SS for 3 or 4 years.
Shephard did not see the field this year as a MIF or catcher and had like 2 or 3 ABs
Once Crenshaw moved to C as a sophomore that job was hers. She loved catching and didn’t want to move to shortstop.
So Bruce is right and you are wrong.
