You need 2 or 3 very good players on your team. You need 4 or 5 others that can be significant contributors. So a minimum of 8 players that are healthy.
Teams that are really good in the Midwest recently are Iowa, Kansas State, Oklahoma, and Kentucky. These teams have had a really good center, and some perimeter players that score, and defend really well.
I think it’s really hard to have a sweet sixteen level team without having a good center in WBB.
So to me it comes down to recruiting. If you get an all American level player the program becomes more attractive to other high level players.
To make a major upgrade for next season get a center like Kentucky has, and a top notch point guard in the portal. That’s just a really good start to building a program I think.
