longer that, they are pro sports, co-located in college towns and accept the reality that economics, not fan passion, will drive success.
All things die, even great things. The era of the "college athlete" is over and we are in the age of the "pro athlete who happens to wear your alma mater's jersey this year".
Sorry, but I accepted this several years ago and no longer put as much "heart" into these sports and don't live and die with them the way I used to.
What you're asking for is a crowdsource function for a pro sport.
