This is how coaching selection works. You grab someone who has recent success which he did.
I do agree that DEI Is very bad for race relations. It has had the opposite of its intended effect. Now it is assumed that every single person of color who gets a competitive position didn't earn it.
In his case, they thought they caught lighting in a bottle which is why he was hired.
