Paying players isn’t the problem in my opinion. It’s the freedom of movement, the eradication of eligibility requirements, and granting of additional seasons.
If they capped it at one free transfer and then made the only exception if your head coach was fired or left for another job, required players to be actual students progressing towards degrees to play college sports, and made a hard cap of 4 seasons of eligibility with very rigid exceptions only for well defined injury situations this would all go away. There would be no incentive to constantly tamper if the player was not free and immediately available to come to your program and if half the participants weren’t just semi pro adults. Maybe some people like that, but I personally don’t follow college sports to watch semi pro adults. They have minor leagues for that and hardly anyone watches them. Putting those players in uniforms of my favorite college doesn’t fundamentally change that equation, I still would prefer to watch actual college kids represent my college
As is almost always the case, a total failure by the NCAA as a governing body. These are not unsolvable problems but almost anything is unsolvable for the NCAA
