What kind of buyout did NC State give him?

As you know, extensions are meaningless (have no teeth) if the money isn't guaranteed. It depends on how the contract is written.

In Gates' case, we gave him $25 million *guaranteed*.

Today, it would still cost us ~$17 million to fire him.

There's no way NC State paid that kind of money (or anywhere close) to fire Keatts... Which is to say, they gave him a much SMARTER contract (following a Final Four run) than we gave Gates (following a blowout loss in the second round).
