and I do not know. Our government basically told the EU to stay the F out. Maybe they would have become more involved at the time. Maybe Russia would have invaded them quickly, and we would be settled into a new normal now.
The USA has really F'd up a lot of the world with our imperialism. It will certainly take some pain to unwind it, but not having to be on the edge of a fight (and the increase terrorist risks) will be a great long term strategy. No different than dramatically cutting the size and scope of the federal government in general.
