I don't understand it. Given the assumption that there are legitimate and needed things the gov't should spend money on then I think the money should come from income tax, not a sales tax (assuming also that is the same as a consumption tax). Surely a big sales tax increase will reduce sales and production of many items, including food. I don't see the advantage of sales taxes. What is the purpose anyway? Didn't use to have one.
