That the players we did have were plenty capable of winning games last year, and in nearly every second half would hold the lead only to collapse down the stretch. Shot selection was poor and there was rarely any opportunities created off dead ball or set plays, timeouts were loosely utilized, and the rotations and substitutions were absolutely bizarre and consistently cost us games. Last year specifically Gates did a very poor job coaching that team and seemed to put an extremely low priority on the outcome of games.

That can be true while it’s also true that he is doing a good job this year and may ultimately succeed at a high level here. But anyone watching last season not concerned with the quality of coaching can’t possibly know what they are looking at.
