because *anything* can happen in a rivalry game.

We saw that this weekend with Michigan beating Ohio State. Upsets happen in rivalry games all the time.

It's too much risk, given that it would knock us out of playoff contention.

In the past, it wasn't a big deal since there was no playoff and thus we weren't (realistically) competing for a national title anyway. In the playoff era, we can't afford a loss to lowly Kansas.
