us out of playoff contention, any given season.

Win, no one cares because it's lowly KU.

Lose, and we're out of the playoffs for sure.

And while we *should* beat them every year, anything is possible in a rivalry game (as we saw with OSU & Michigan this week).

Illinois would be an acceptable end-of-season rival. They're a Big Ten opponent and mid-tier power-conference program. A loss to the Illini wouldn't knock us out of playoff contention. Plus, the school isn't super trashy like KU, so I wouldn't mind MU being associated with them as a rival.
