at the time according to most Americans of the same era.
You're going to get some **** and there will be some bad outcomes of this tactic of immigration. At the time of the Irish and Italians there was little other choice. Now, we've got extremely long lines of intelligent people, hard working people, family members of citizens that are trying to legally immigrate that will serve the same purpose of population growth, but we ignore that aspect in favor of open borders.
When the option to "fix" the system is there and the administration ****s it off and just opens the borders to avoid the administrative paperwork/process it either means they want the **** to come in when there's better options because they want to destabilize or they are just lazy.
I think it's both, but this is probably the most impactful immigration wave in a century and it didn't need to happen if the goal was population growth/prosperity and not cheap labor/destabilization for a Marxist or global takeover.
Am I wrong?
