not understanding that dictionaries are only a representation of *some* uses of words hampers your ability comprehend.

Meaning is embedded in the context. Dictionaries do not capture all meaning. Go look at the definition of furniture in multiple dictionaries and you should also be able to see how lexicographers struggle in defining common characteristics of what furniture is. Some dictionaries, a fork would be furniture, or a washer & dryer that people wheel out and hookup to a faucet. But most people never consider those furniture.
