I don’t believe any MU head bb coach has ever been fired elsewhere before being hired by MU. In fact Gates is somewhat an anomaly, following the Quin fallout I would argue MU actually self sabotaged to an extent by restricting candidates to only those already coaching at major conference schools when they hired Haith and Cuonzo believing that was an important hiring characteristic. We missed out on a lot of viable assistant coach candidates and coaches at lower level schools in doing so.
In your example it’s not like Tennessee decided to go take Texas’s successful bb coach. He was available because he had just been fired.
