driver who felt that an angry mob pounding on his car was an imminent threat to his person &/or to the life and health of any others in his car as well.

I would also be taking into account that protesters standing in front or in back of a vehicle surrounded by people attacking it are intentionally taking their own lives into their hands... they know or should know that the driver could very well try and drive through the crowd to try and get away from danger.
