They are the players that nearly had a mutiny against him due to the poor coaching, role definition, and lack of strategy that were discussing transferring had he remained until he suddenly left to take Arkansas's job.
In 2011-12 they were Frank Haith's players. They were unquestionably better coached in 2011-12.
There is a narrow window of valid comparison as it pertains to MU on the topic of Big 12 vs SEC strength, because in 2014 MU gave up on men's basketball and cratered the program. So really we are left with the single transition year as a validly isolated scenario. MU dominated the Big 12 in 2011-12 and left its champion. MU had much more talent and much more depth in 2012-13 for its first season in the SEC, but was wholly unprepared for the step up in talent, athleticism, and overall basketball level in the SEC and finished 5th place in conference. They have never competed for an SEC championship since, but that is largely self inflicted by giving up on men's basketball and thus isn't very reflective of an accurate comparison.
