Most people, I believe, don't care if people are not straight. But they don't want that fact shoved down their throat in terms of the media and politically. I think that's a legitimate problem.
But...this happens on a variety of issues. Take religion, and in this country specifically, Christianity. We actually give special dispensation to churches for things like taxes and yet, socially and politically, Christianity is shoveled down the throats of the non-religious. This is ubiquitous in our culture.
But I think the solution is to ignore a lot of the promotion of things you don't agree with. This is, afterall, a free country.
From my perspective a lot of people on the right want to pick and choose what should be acceptable in our society based on their moral compass. It doesn't work that way.
