of this. the lhn (along with unequal rev in big xii) is what started the modern realignment crap.

when CU, A&M, Nubs and MU left Pac offered Texas and OU. They said they would as long as they kept 3rd tier rights (ie texas gets to keep lhn). Pac said no thinking the big xii was about to fall apart and that's why tejas and ou stayed thus extending the viability of the big xii a little longer.
