Mizzou doesn’t have the “rich” tradition and brand you think it does either. I love the campus and COMO but its sports teams are stuck in a small marketplace with pro sports being way more interesting to the t-shirt fans in the state. It’s a school for alums and students. Not a pro sports lacking area like NW Arkansas, e.g, that has a lot more t-shirt fans. It is what it is. I think the sleeping giant narrative is a myth. Mizzou simply has limits. If it didn’t, it wouldn’t have its sports history. The B10 and B12 both have some thing’s going for it, for Mizzou, that the SEC simply doesn’t have, like more interesting rivalries, exposure in areas that have a lot of MU alums, academic panache, etc. So, while the ship has sailed, I can certainly see why some people don’t love the SEC. They aren’t dumb af, they aren’t senile or whatever other dick-ish approach you choose to take.
