IL hasn’t been much of a football power. They did win a B10 title in my lifetime. Ask Nub. Seems to me their recruiting base sucks and their one time facility advantages are no big deal anymore. They may do better with NIL.
Bottom line, Mizzou hasn’t won a conference title in FB, MBB or baseball since they were in the B8. And they were hardly dominant in the B8 outside a decade with Devine and an 18 yr run with Norm.
I think anybody that thinks MU is going to be big time in sports, in the deepest sports conference in human history, are trying to defy history, Mizzou’s situation, and are borderline delusional. Therefore, I’m more interested in simply finishing .500 (an excellent benchmark of competitiveness) and results against rivals. Conference and national titles have rarely been Mizzou’s jam. Again, I think the court sports are Mizzou’s best chance to dream in these areas. Yes, it was great to make championship games in the B12 and SEC but MU was never the best in their conference and probably was at best 3rd in those years. Regardless, SEC doesn’t want divisional winners anymore so that route to a title is gone with the wind.
