that's exactly what I'm saying. It's a mindset; I'm not a slave to the law in that it doesn't save me. I'm not a slave to the law if I voluntarily and in prayer believe that's what I should do to obey Him. Are you a slave to God for 'loving others' as we're directed to do? I'm no more a slave for observing the appointed times than you are for loving others. I find it joy to obey the Torah because it's God's direction to His people.
Obviously there are parts that changed with Christ...atonement sacrifices are no longer needed.
I also cannot carry out His justice system on my own accord (or even with a group) since we are subject to America's laws...stoning a thief is right out.
But, you hit on 2 perfect examples; I do believe we should observe God's Appointed Times and the eating guidelines.
I don't do as well as I should, and this is something I've really just settled on in my life in the last year or so. I'm not trying to come at this as a "you can't be saved or holy if you don't"...it's how can I be most obedient to Him?
Such as, observing the Sabbath; God laid out that requirement in Genesis, way before the 'law' was given. So, I try to observe the Sabbath, on the last day of the week as He laid out, the best I can. Still struggling with what that means in my life, and with the fact that we're in a culture that doesn't make that easy. That's also NOT saying Christians cannot or should not meet on Sunday, but the origins of meeting on Sundays is rooted in...'de-Jewing' Christianity.
