... didn't have a brutal Big 12/SEC conference schedule and conference championship game.
Winning the 7-game schedule Big 8 back then was equivalent to winning a division title, of which Pinkel won 5.
If you want to limit it to just Regular season conference records (like Devine was allowed), Pinkel finished with the best record in conference three times (2007, 2010, 2013). More than Devine.
And Pinkel didn't **** down his leg against Kansas in 2007, while Devine did in 1960
As for the "MAC" games... fine take them out. We beat Illinois and Ole'Miss on the road in 2007 and finished 9-1 against P5 teams. What was Devine's best reg. season record??? Oh that's right.... 9-1
This idea Devine had it harder... is absurd. That's patently untrue.
Devine didn't have a complete rebuild required
Devine didn't have as hard a conference
Devine also had a much, much, much easier road to the national title... of which he failed.
Had Pinkel been in Devine's era, when they decided natty titles at the end of the regular season and before bowl games... we would have been named champs in 2007 after the kansas win.
Also, Pinkel turned down Washington and Michigan and stayed loyal to Mizzou, while Devine left Mizzou behind.
