It was THE game you can point to where things changed for Mizzou football. No longer was being a laughing stock going to be acceptable after that game. It didn't happen all at once, but it started that night. Recruits started to look at Mizzou differently. Sports media started to treat Mizzou differently. And maybe most importantly, fans started to believe that it was OK to think Mizzou might become a winning program.

I tried to get some guys to get season tickets with me for that 97 season and I was mostly just laughed at. I had tickets from like 91-94, but the guy I went with moved out of state and didn't want to go anymore, but I still followed the team. You could tell in 96 things were getting better. But after that Nub game in 97 and the rest of the 97 season, there was no denying it. And I had no trouble getting 3 guys to get season tickets in 98. We didn't all site together, but our tailgating group grew to well over 20 by the early Pinkel years.

So even though the result of the game was just another loss, it wasn't just another loss. You felt good about the future of the program and that was a feeling we fans had not had in a very, very long time.
