and it actually matters where the case is brought because defamation laws vary by state.

When you have a botched knee replacement, you are not necessarily entitled to compensation. It depends on the laws where your medical care occurred. In most states, it's important that both negligence occurred and that the negligence directly impacted the negative outcome. The natural law is that you were harmed, but the actual legal protection comes from medical malpractice laws in each state.
