Bottom line, and as I said in my original post to DA, I’m way more worried about sports other than MBB. Im arguing about the here and now, not theoretical takes about ku sucking. They haven’t. I was simply putting forth that the economic malaise is easier for ku hoops to cope with due to proximity of fans and thus lower costs for said fans. MU has always seemed to rely on folks driving many hours and many miles to draw the big crowds. 8% plus inflation and $5 gas is not a great recipe for big crowds to emerge in the next several seasons. MU, which is already suffering from a lack of funds, now needs even more to meet their own inflationary pressures (line traveling to far flung schools half way across the country) while in the midst of an economy few alive have even seen. And while it is good for MU hoops if Moseley found a payday, is this same entity taking this money out of the TSF? And who will have to fund any such lost money? Maybe they are super wealthy and just increased their overall contributions?
From somebody that worked with budgets for 30 years, trades stocks now and spends a lot of time following the economy, It’s a bad time to find money for discretionary things like sports, in my view. Hopefully, it will be sniffed out in a year or two. But even if it is, MU will be back to still needing more money to compete well in the SEC where it is bottom tier (even when we had a record stock market) and manageable inflation.
