There were plenty of star players on the roster in 2020. He lost a lot of talent to transfers and couldn't replace it - that's on Drink. Yes, players are going to transfer, but from what I can tell Drink has one of the highest transfer rates in P5 football... why is that? He's not the only new coach, why does top talent continue to abandon ship?
Drink's also had 2 years with the freshman and sophomores Odom left behind... how well has he developed that talent? We're going to find out in 2022. My guess - he hasn't.
Bazelak regressed this year... why? It was obvious to everyone and yet Drink didn't do much to get his backups experience during the season... why?
My point is, we're in this situation because of the choices Drinkwitz has made and his ability to identify, attract, retain, and develop talent. Pittman took over a worse situation in Arkansas and it's pretty clear they're making progress. Tennessee, progress in year 1. But here at Mizzou Drinkwitz gets 5 years to show progress - just like Martin I guess.
