Gregg Marshall wouldn't accept it; our AD would NEVER go for it. Nobody can hire him right now. We need to ride this out until we can fire CM.

I do like your idea about firing assistant coaches. I'm not sure any AD goes that far, but I like the move. At the very least, you tell him to pick two to terminate and start interviewing other candidates ASAP. The problem is that I don't think CM is that well connected. He's been with this same staff for a while...and there's a reason they don't leave him.
