conferences do not have an adequate response to the addition of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC. Outside of Notre Dame there are no marquis programs available unless one is taken from another conference which tend to destabilize those conferences.
I posted earlier that this realignment was different in that premiere programs were the ones being targeted with the excess baggage of their little brothers not coming along as well as in previous realignments.
The dynamics this time are different as there is an element of genuine fear that it is each school interests first and foremost.
The other dynamic is the wealth gap of the SEC versus ACC with the addition of Texas and Oklahoma is about a 2-1 ratio. The gap could widen to 3-1. This is cumulative with each passing year. Schools left behind simply can not keep up and this leads to a certain level of despair and uncertainty.
Survival of the fittest then is in play and while no one is saying consolidation of college football maybe in play.
