Local coffee place, bunch of pretentious dorks, but they are close to my work, and roast really good beans. I go there to buy beans b/c I know what day they roast and they have a good selection of single origin lots that frequently rotate. Usually I like to go in, check out the flavor profiles of the new varieties and then flip the bag over to check the roast date to make sure I'm getting the freshest beans possible, b/c I'm a pretentious douche about my coffee.
During height of pandemic, they only allowed 1 person at a time into the shop, so I had to wait outside with the hobos in the rain waiting for Adelynnnnne to get her latte. I then go in to stand in my designated floor circle to look at the coffee...which is now on a newly constructed counter/shelf with plexiglass behind it to keep me away from the staff. I picked up a bag of beans to check the date and was told "please don't touch that" that's for display only. To which I replied "well....I want to know the roast-on date and also read the description (region, washing process, etc) and the flavor profile".
"Well....I'll just tell you"
"ok, tell me about the Ethiopian Demekele"
"Well.....it's really good. you know. I haven't had it, but people like it"
"whelp.....I guess I'll take it"
They proceed to place a bag from their stock on the shelf. and then run to their ipad with a RFID reader for the credit card scanner. Since they have to be 6 feet away with the ipad, they then ask me to verbalize what I want to tip for a bag of coffee that happened to be 3 weeks old because I wasn't able to select it for myself.
Does that help?
