I asked a friend of mine, who was one of the top people at Learfield Sports at the time, what was the inside scoop on the move. He said Mizzou blew the deal with the Big10 by acting too arrogant about joining. Mizzou (meaning Alden) blew it. There had been rumors for years that Mizzou should join the Big10, even before the Big10 expanded with Penn State. If Mizzou was really serious about joining or wanted to keep their options open (ie long term planning), they should have been cultivating relationships with the Big10 many years ago. I think Osborne had the connections and the clout to make the move and Alden didn't.
