Maryland had a long time rivalry with Penn St., but they quit playing when the turtles lost something like 20 in a row. I really don’t think that they belong in the B1G at all. They’re in a suburb of DC.
The State University of New Jersey (Rutgers) has much, much less of a argument that they belong in the B1G, except maybe for their academics.
Penn St. whined for years that they needed a rival on the east coast, and I always thought that Syracuse or Pitt could fill that position, but Penn St. didn’t want Pitt, and I guess the Orangmen had no interest.
