Barbara Williams, Johnathan Williams III’s mother, on Fuller and his bond with her son:
During the recruitment period, Coach Fuller built a pretty good bond with J3. Then when Johnathan visited the campus, and oh wow, that campus was just amazing. It was very, very nice. It’s equipped with everything that a student athlete would need. So as a family we were impressed with the campus. The relationships with the coaches were very good as well. Coach Fuller just bonded so quick with J3. Fuller is a big talker and J3 is a big listener. He enlightened him on a whole lot of things about the school that would be enticing for anybody to want to go to a place like that. So the relationship with them was nice, from the recruitment process all the way through the season.
Barbara Williams on Coach Fuller’s impact on her son and his decision to transfer:
I can’t say if it played a role. All the coaching staff [that recruited him] is gone now. So one would assume that, you know, that may have had a little bit to do with it. I mean, he recruited Johnathan, and he’s been there every step of the way.
When you send your child to college, and he’s there in another state, and you don’t have anybody or any relatives that are there with him, you depend on that coach that recruited your son. That’s your communication with how your son is doing. If I needed to get to him, when I called [Coach Fuller], he was there, he answered the phone. He wasn’t the type of person that dodges your phone calls or pretends he doesn’t have time. He’ll pick up, he’ll say "Hey, Mrs. Williams, what do I need to do?" He’ll say, "Johnathan is doing good, Johnathan is doing good on grades. We need to push Johnathan on this. What can I do to get Johnathan to do this?" He’s a good communicator. If I need anything about my child to be answered or done… he’s there to do it. He just goes beyond.
