ists from around the world were warning about how dangerous such research is and was and the US congress outlawed such research in the US for that reason.
Fauci was doing an end run around those laws and now the world is paying the price for his stupidity or evil intentions as the case may be.
China certainly didn't play nice with the rest of the world when the virus did start spreading. They covered it up as best they could by cracking down on any scientists or doctors who tried to warn their fellow doctors and scientists and even their own citizens. Those who had spoken out relatively early were severely disciplined & ordered to recant the truths that they had spoken.
A doctor or two had belatedly sent samples of the genome of this manufactured virus to fellow scientists abroad and were severely disciplined for that. But now people laud China for getting that genome out to the rest of the world. They vehemently opposed letting that information out, it was whistleblowers in China who defied the government who did so.
