Power is the ability, by whatever means, to exercise your will over another.

Authority is the legal right to exercise power--it is power that is generally assented to by those over whom it is exercised.

If I put a gun to your head because I don't like you, I now have the power to kill you, but not the authority.

In a Venn diagram there would be some overlap.
