escalations but they start out just trying to do a job.
There was a huge outcry in KC this weekend when a police officer pushed a peaceful protestor on the plaza. But when you watch the video it was obvious that the protestors had been instructed to stay on the sidewalk. The protestors were lined up there and the police were in the street. You can see a protestor walk out on the street and the cop in question steps forward and motions him back. As the cop continues forward the man stays where he is and a woman steps down and joins him. They all jaw at one another and the cop pushes them back.
Who escalated here?
The people did by breaking the protest line and refusing to move back. But the cop mishandled his response and wound up the bad guy. This is what I mean by the cops seldom escalating. If the protestors had stayed in the sidewalk the cop would have never left his line. They were attempting to provoke a response, they succeeded.
