For those ignorant of history, it's not the racist South, but the racist nation.
FYI, the state with the most KKK members was Indiana. #2 was Pennsylvania.
Why was the Emancipation Proclamation issued in 1863, instead of 1861? The Union was getting their azz kicked, and Lincoln hoped it would foment a slave rebellion. It didn't. He didn't give a da.. about the slaves. He wanted to ship them back to Africa. This act only freed slaves in the South, not the North. The last state to abolish slavery was Delaware.
Grant said he didn't fight to free the slaves. So did Sherman. The war wasn't fought over slavery. Unfortunately, the winning side writes the history books. It's now taught that it was good versus evil. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
