We qualified fairly easily during the 4 years Sophie was here.

We play 13-14 non conference games each year. During those 4 years we averaged 11.5 wins and 2 losses each year.

Then, in SEC play those 4 years, we went 8-8, 11-5, 11-5, and 10-6.

Our final regular season records in those 4 years, before the SEC and NCAA tournaments, was 21-8, 21-9, 23-6, 21-9.

So we need 11-12 non conference wins, and at minimum a .500 record in the SEC (8-8), with 10 wins (10-6) preferable. And we need to be at 21 wins overall in the regular season to not be sweating during the NCAA selection show.

Doing some damage in the SEC tournament would be nice too, although we havnt had much success there in those 4 years.

I think the ESPN brackets are pretty fair for assessing the SEC, at this point. If the one time transfer waiver is allowed, it will help us a little with Hansen, but will help some of the SEC powers even more, which will make our task more difficult.

SC, Miss St, Kentucky should be the elite again, and I don’t think it’s a stretch to say Arky could challenge for a national seed. I’m not so sure about TAMU, didn’t they lose Chennedy Carter?

But after those 5 teams, right now, I see a clear drop off between the next group, which would include Tennessee, LSU, Georgia, Alabama and, hopefully, us. Auburn, Florida and Vandy should bring up the rear, although each of them could be decent teams capable of springing an upset or two.

One or two of that tier of 5 teams we are in could conceivably challenge for the top 4-5 in the conference, and I’m hoping everything comes together for us and we will be that team. Could just as well be Tennessee or LSU or Georgia too. Why Tennessee is not a clear selection to break into the top 4-5 is a mystery to me, but until I see their new coach get all that talent to play consistently and with effort every night, they will be a question mark.
