have run into such situations that crashed their economies in catastrophic fashion. Sometimes it lasts for a very, very long time.
Argentina, if I recall, was at one time considered the #2 economic power in the world. But they were running a bubble economy and when it finally crashed they dropped off a cliff. They have never really fully recovered.
