People in St. Louis and Kansas City are respectively Cardinals crazy nd Chiefs crazy, No one in the state, at least not a sizable number of folks, is either football nor Tigers crazy. There are at least two results.
One is financial support for the Tiger program is less than the support for the Tier One SEC programs. I.e. the Tiger football budget is about half, if that, of the budgets for the top SEC programs. An example, Georgia spends substantially more on football recruiting than the Tiger AD spends on all recruiting. It would take a doubling, tripling or more of donations to the Tiger AD to simply be comparable to the top tier SEC programs.
The second is high school football does not receive the same emphasis that it gets in Texas, Georgia and Florida. Missouri doesn't produce enough home grown talent for that talent alone to support a Tier 1 SEC program. Consequently, the Tiger program has to go out of its natural recruiting base. While information technology may make that easier today than in the past, the Tigers will never consistently get the same amount of talent out of Texas as aTm or LSU or the same amount of talent out of Florida and Georgia as Florida and Georgia.
So while it is possible that magic may happen, it is extremely unlikely.
