and most of them don't want to do anything hard or that requires a lot of sacrifice. Hell, I'm not sure that I want to, but if doing anything helps, even a little bit, then why shouldn't we do it?

It's like folks complaining that something is a "drop in the bucket" - yeah, that's true, but enough drops will cause the bucket to overflow. So if you can slow the process, why not do so? Whether that's virtue signaling or just prudence, I don't care.
