You don't lose your license after 1 DUI. You don't end up on probabtion after 1 DUI.
So what "safe space" do you take him to?
Had a Mo Trooper pick up a drunk who'd signed himself out of Still Detox in Jeff City, went to a bar and got drunk, and got the shìt beat out of him. He dropped him off at the University Hospital in COMO.
After running a battery of tests the Med Center determined he was drunk, otherwise fine, and needed him removed. They don't keep people who need a "safe place", especially at taxpayer expense.
So we took him to Boone Co Jail for a 20 hour hold.
Ran him in the computer and he had 53 entries on his license. Entries for DWI, BAC, Following Too Close, Failure to Keep Right, C & I. Those last 3 are all tickets typically written for accidents.
So how many lives did his drinking and driving affect?
What if he was just given a ride to a safe place?
Back to the dumb ass passed out on a dark street....
Kansas has no traffic codes which cover taking a drunk pedestrian on the roadway to a safe place. It does have a traffic regulation about being an intoxicated pedestrian on a roadway.
How much time do you waste on some idiot who keeps making the same mistakes repeatedly? Arrest him, book him, drop him off at county. Return to service.
