Hard to maintain without breaks

A healthy male in relatively good shape can do 36 miles in 10 hours (actually done over 14 hours). If he is carrying gear - reduce that. In August heat reduce it again. Any sort of small injury, reduce it again.
Reality is that a trip like that is rather expensive.
edit: wagon trains going over the same terrain did 20 miles per day and they didn't have road / bridges.
