I have long thought Donald Trump's greatest "offense" was that he is not a member of the "political class" and much of the opposition and anger that he has faced is due to that fact.
I have come to the conclusion that perhaps this country does not need a "professional political class" and that it is time for term limits, i.e. two senate terms and four (perhaps six) house terms. Perhaps not seeing being a Senator or Congressman as a "lifetime right" may not be all bad for the country.
Additionally, it obvious that Congress is slow to address many issues. I.e. the Republicans had years to craft an alternative to Obama Care and yet when the time comes, had no viable alternative. Everyone cries out that we need "immigration reform", but nothing happens.
The thought has also occurred to me that one reason nothing happens in Washington is these are not easy issues to solve. I.e. on immigration reform, if you eliminate "open borders", where do you go from there, i.e. whom besides the "bad guys" do you keep out. Easier to kick that can down the road. Particularly, if the mindset is I'm going to be here for a good long while and I'll get to that some day, a day that seems to never comes.
Could a term limited term Congress be any worse? Oh I know we wouldn't have Maxine and Nancy or Diane as fixtures in Washington anymore, but somehow I would be willing to pay that price.
Just some rambling thoughts this morning from the Valley of the Sun.
