the Japs attacked PH, it was WHEN and HOW they did it. The sneak attack prior to the declaration of hostilities was the reason for the anger at Japan.
The Japanese also attacked the Philippines and killed 10,000 Americans and wounded another 36,000.. FAR MORE than at Pearl Harbor. Why no national outcry about the Phillipines? Bcause it happened AFTER hostilities were declared.
During open hostilities, Seattle, SF, LA, San Diego all would have been legitimate military targets. In fact, the Japanese DID attack mainland US when they shelled an oil storage facility north of LA and launched an air attack on an Army base in Oregon
